Contrary to popular beleive building your own PC is like jumping off a cliff, dead easy to do but requires some effort to actually take the plunge. So why should you build your own PC? There are loads of reasons to do so. I'll explain it all to you in words that even George Bush can understand .

When you were a kid did you play with mechano, lego or any other construction game? Do you still play with it? I guess building a PC is like that, but with wires and it costs more. All you have to do is follow simple instructions. How hard can that be? If you really are utterly hopeless at computers, I suggest you aquaint yourself with the mouse and keyboard.
My psychic sense tells me you came onto this site to find out about building PC's. Put that 30 seconds or so that it took you to read that last paragraph to good use. But seriously now...here's why its good:
You only pay for what you get
You cut out the middle man *cough*PCWORLD*cough*
You know whats inside the thing, which makes it easier to fix etc.
You can choose EXACTLY what you want, none of this combo bull****
You dont have to go along with Windows (I know it fits into the last statement, but this is important)
It's a lot cheaper
If you're quite happy to devote a little of your time to this, you'll have a decent PC ready to run. It obviously helps if you have a brain, but appliance of common sense does help. If you write tip-ex on your computer screen, say "looky here ma! I's gone and killed a skunk" or clap the backs of your hands together smiling inanely then please, please, PLEASE get off my site.
